Data Mining and Modeling, From Theory to Practice

This presentation will explore several aspects of data mining, with a
focus on do-it-yourself ways of discovering new patterns in your donor
giving behavior and new potential donors in your donor database. Plan to
take away tangible approaches for integrating effective knowledge
discovery techniques into your prospect research.

10:40-11:50

Anne Knapp, VP of Planned Giving, American Heart Association

Planned Giving -The Role of Data Mining in Identifying Potential Donors

Effective planned giving programs involve both informing and
identifying potential donors. Prospect research and data mining play an
important role in gathering the proper information that will allow an
institution to segment the various prospect groups likely to consider
such gifts. This seminar will provide an overview of the different
types of planned gifts, and identify characteristics of prospects
qualified to consider such gifts.

1:30-3:00

Setting the Stage for Proactive Research - Beyond Basic Techniques and
Applications of Data Mining

Data mining and donor modeling provide prospect researchers with new
types of analyses that set the stage for proactive research. These
techniques can be employed internally or with the help of outside
vendors. Either way, effectively deploying these techniques enables
researchers to play a more strategic role in the organization's efforts
to raise money. Beginning with quality data analysis helps researchers
spend more time on qualified prospects, digging up valuable information
that will help craft a cultivation strategy. Join us for this more
advanced session to learn how these new techniques can add to the
traditional research methods done by every development shop.
