APRA-NW is sponsoring the Virtual Seminar: Prospect Research 101 and the International Conference Recap between 8:30 and 2:00 p.m. in Oregon. The chapter is offering the Conference Recap session (10:00 - 12:00) ONLY in WA location.
This plan was made based on the programming survey conducted last year which indicated WA members were not interested in the Prospect Research 101 session. If you would like us to offer the upcoming Virtual Seminar in WA, please reply this email by tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/11 at 5:00 p.m. In order to offer this event as membership benefit, we will need to have up to ten members who are interested in attending this seminar.
As always, APRA-NW is committed to tailor its programs to members need, please feel free to contact Donna Hudson, APRA-NW Program Chair, at Hudsondochrist at uoregon.edu or me at hhassan at u.washington.edu if you have any questions.

Virtual Seminar: Prospect Research 101
Presented by: Vicky Martin, Director of Research Management & Information Services, Indiana University Foundation and
Karen Stitsworth, Director of Development Research Services, Purdue University)
Virtual Seminar Summary:
Research is an essential component of the development process. In this virtual seminar, two veteran researchers share their in-depth knowledge to address the elementary tools, techniques and issues of prospect research. Discover the resources, methods and strategies for unearthing biographical, financial, affinity and other information critical to the cultivation and solicitation of gifts for our organizations. Free and fee-based sources will be discussed, complete with tips for successful Internet searching. If you are new to advancement research, a veteran researcher in need of an overview of the fundamentals, or a development professional interested in learning more about the importance of prospect research, this is an excellent educational opportunity for you.
Vicky Martin is the director of Research Management and Information Services at the Indiana University Foundation (IU). She has been involved in the field of prospect research for more than 14 years and oversees a staff of seven professional researchers and two support staff in her current position. Ms. Martin is an active member of APRA-Indiana. Having completed two consecutive three-year terms, she was recently recruited to board service again and is soon to be serving as the chapter's president.
Karen Stitsworth is the director of Development Research Services at Purdue University. Prior to her position at Purdue she held positions as an associate director of a law school library and then as a corporate attorney at the headquarters for a life and group health insurance company. She has pursued a career in prospect research since 1994. She currently oversees the daily operations of a team made up of seven prospect researchers, an associate director for prospect management and tracking, an administrative assistant, department secretary and three to six student assistants. The department is currently supporting the prospect research needs of sixty-five major gift fundraisers and is partnering with them in a comprehensive campaign to raise $1.5 billion for Purdue University by June 30, 2007. Ms. Stitsworth is beginning her seventh consecutive year of serving on the APRA-IN Board of Directors, having held several positions: program chair, editor of the chapter newsletter, chapter secretary, and nominations chair. She is a frequent speaker at APRA meetings on the state and international levels. Ms. Stitsworth co-chaired the Management Track for the 2003 APRA conference in Dallas. Ms. Martin and Ms. Stitsworth are co-chairs for the Management and Professional Development track for the 2005 San Diego meeting.
