Development Services Manager at Catlin Gabel
Reports to:
Director of Development

Summary

The Development Services Manager is responsible for three primary areas
of work: prospect research, moves management, and development reporting.
This position is central to all development activities by strategically
capturing, extracting and managing information. The Development Services
Manager works directly with all officers and the head of school to help
reach annual and longer term fundraising and development goals of the
school.
Principal Duties

• Conduct and manage all prospect research, responding to requests from
development officers, head of school and key volunteers
• Analyzes and consolidates data gathered and reports, relevant
biographical and financial information about donors and potential
prospects, making recommendations regarding cultivation, solicitation
and stewardship
• Manages the integrity of the prospect management system by designing
and implementing business practices and processes for data entry,
extraction and reporting
• Manages and oversees moves management system for development office,
head of school and key volunteers, including capturing of call reports,
producing prospect management reports, and working closely with officers
and head of school to drive fundraising progress
• Oversees all general development reports including monthly fundraising
results, gift pyramids, campaign prospect lists, and other critical
information used by development officers
• Manage administration needs for all named and endowed funds including
fund performance reports and stewardship letters
• Tracking naming opportunities, pledge reminders and other standard
development reports
• Produce body of policies and procedures for the management of Raisers
Edge database and related systems.
• Responsible for the comprehensive management of Raisers Edge database
system. Establish business practices, cross-train with development
information coordinator to ensure all information is shared. Train other
development staff as appropriate.
• Key partnership with Information Systems team on broader database
issues; complex reporting; and school wide information standards.
Qualifications

• Experience in prospect research function including research, profiles,
financial analysis, and recognition of wealth indicators
• Knowledge of research tools and ability to discern pertinent
information for the solicitation cycle, and ability to identify
prospects for annual fund, major gifts and planned giving
• Direct experience in moves management role with complete understanding
of solicitation cycle and fundraising activities
• Experience with Raisers Edge or similar software system and
relationship management database
• Ability to navigate databases and ensure accurate information is both
entered and extracted
• Experience writing queries in a relational database is desired
• Experience running and reading quantitative reports is desired
• Ability to write well and effectively draft stewardship and thank you
letters
• Ability to conduct meetings on prospect management, and work
one-on-one with officers and head of school
• Ability to ensure accurate information and maintain the integrity of
information systems
• Bachelor's degree
• At least two years experience in similar roles
• Must be able to communication effectively and thoughtfully both orally
and in writing
• Must be comfortable working in self-directed manner as well as in
group setting as part of the development team
• Superior organizational and planning skills; attention to detail;
highly developed computer skills including word processing, presentation
software, and databases for prospect management and research
• General sense of Portland and Oregon business/philanthropy
• Adherence to professional standards developed by APRA and CASE
