Donor Research & Database Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Summary: The Donor Research & Database Manager is central to
the success of the Federation's development efforts. Primary
responsibilities are to oversee all aspects of donor and constituent
records, using the Sage Fund 100 donor database, and to coordinate the
research and analysis of top donors and donor prospects to ensure more
effective cultivation and solicitation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Prospect Research (20%)
*At the direction of the Senior Development Team, implements a
donor/prospect research program to support all development efforts by
determining research needs and by accessing public information,
community resources and in-house data;
* Undertakes prospect and donor research proactively and by following up
staff and volunteer leads;
* Prepares donor information for cultivation and solicitation of top
donors;
*Identifies and maintains online, print and personal resources to
support the donor/prospect research program;
*Ensures that Sage Fund 100 donor records incorporate research data.

Donor Records (30%)
* Manages the donor database and develops systems for improving and
maintaining accuracy, completeness, quality control, and database
design;
* Ensures accuracy of Sage Fund 100 criteria for annual donor Honor
Roll, Campaign mailing and invitation lists, phonathon prospects, annual
tax letters, and other projects;
* Supervises data entry and reporting for multiple areas of donor
database; ensures that information updates for donors, prospects,
beneficiary agencies, and synagogues are integrated in database;
* Sets priorities for data entry projects.
*Manages the database/general ledger interface in coordination with the
accounting department.

Reporting and Analysis (35%)
* Designs Sage Fund 100 reports for Development Team and other
departments of the Federation as needed;
* Provides regular weekly reports on Annual Campaign, plus special
reports and analysis as needed;
*Provides strategic support to Development Team through analysis of Sage
Fund 100 data.

Software and Training (10%)
* Installs periodic Sage Fund 100 upgrades and works with software
vendor support to resolve technical issues;
* Maintains underlying tables and managers, system defaults, user
accounts, and integrity of software;
*Ensures smooth operation of Sage Fund 100, and plans and implements
strategic use of the database program and related systems;
* Trains all new staff in use of Sage Fund 100, conducts regular
in-service Sage Fund 100 training for current staff and assists staff
with Sage Fund 100 problem solving.

General (5%) Assists in staffing Federation events as necessary;

Regularly attends workshops and seminars in order to maintain a high
level of knowledge and skill in donor prospecting and research, and Sage
Fund 100/database management;

Performs other duties as assigned by the VP, Center for Jewish
Philanthropy.

Reporting Relationships:
The Donor Research & Database Manager reports to the Vice President,
Center for Jewish Philanthropy or designee, with additional functional
reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Administration. The Manager
supervises the Database Coordinator.

Qualifications:
* One or more years of demonstrable success in database management and
related systems, preferably in a non profit fundraising environment, or
equivalent education and experience
* Experience (professional or volunteer) in a non profit fundraising
environment desirable
* One or more years of supervisory or lead experience
* Demonstrated ability in training and motivating staff
* Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and internet research skills
* Experience with or ability to learn donor prospect research skills
* Knowledge of non profit accounting concepts desirable
* BA degree
