Position Title: Prospect Manager
Primary Location: Portland, Oregon
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Major Gifts department raises private
funds to support Mercy Corps’ mission, providing humanitarian aid
globally, from crisis to opportunity.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Prospect Manager manages the major gift
donor portfolio in Raiser’s Edge,ensuring its integrity and sound use by
the Major Gifts (MG) team; this includes responsibility for extracting
data forsolicitations and research, as well as establishing the coding
structure and database policies for the team, in conjunction with
the Database Manager. The Prospect Manager helps ensure the timely
reporting of fundraising data to help guide and support the MG team’s
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct and coordinate prospect research for the MG team in order to
help team prioritize donor activity. Prepare comprehensive briefing
memos for agency’s leadership team providing important background
information used to prepare meeting participants and influence strategy.
2. Support and help track all major gifts activity. Work with MG team
members to ensure database integrity, relevant coding schemes and data
entry that adheres to necessary standards.
3. Support the Vice President for Development in coaching and
supervising the MG team as it relates to managing prospect
pools and strategizing priorities, activities and results.
4. Manage MG donor portfolio in Raiser’s Edge and serve as primary
liaison with database manager.
5. Train MG staff in major gifts processes, data protocols and systems.
6. Produce data selects and export files for solicitation, events and
research projects, in coordination with the Database Manager. Create and
maintain reports to capture fundraising results. Where appropriate,
train and oversee other staff members to complete these tasks.
7. Manage and coordinate annual MG budget process.
8. Other duties as requested or required.
As part of Mercy Corps’ agency-wide Organizational Learning Initiative,
all team members are responsible for spending 5% of their work time in
formal and/or non-formal professional learning activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position may be responsible for the
oversight of one or more volunteers whose role will be primarily data
entry and extraction.
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Vice President for Development
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Vice President for Development; Major Gifts Team;
Database Manager; Development Operations
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
College degree or equivalent in a related field.
Demonstrated technical competency with Raiser’s Edge; also proficiency
At least 4 years experience in database management and analysis.
Skilled in using data analysis tools to assist in prospect identification.
Ability to creatively compile relevant public and institutional
information to assemble comprehensive, accurate prospect
Ability to work independently and organize time effectively.
Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service orientation including communication skills and

the details. The Prospect Manager will be able to learn quickly, take

LIVING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This position is based in Portland, Oregon at Mercy Corps’ Headquarters.
There will be occasional travel required to regional offices including
Seattle, San Francisco, New York and Boston.
