Reed College, one of the country’s leading private liberal arts
colleges, invites nominations and applications for the position of
Associate Director of the Annual Fund. Reed is a highly selective
liberal arts college that values intellectual achievement and has a
strong tradition of alumni/ae involvement and support.

The Associate Director for Direct Marketing is responsible for the
direct marketing activities of the Annual Giving office. This position
has primary responsibility for solicitation segmentation, project
management, and analysis across all solicitation channels including:
mail; email; phonathon; and, web-based platforms. He/she plays an
integral team role in planning, coordinating and producing Annual Giving
solicitations to secure financial support and a giving pipeline for the
college from alumni, students, parents and friends.

The Associate Director will set priorities for direct marketing
solicitations and work with the Director to create annual solicitation
goals and metrics. The position is accountable for reaching the Annual
Fund goals ($3.81 million in fiscal year 2012) with particular
responsibility in securing gifts of less than $1,000 ($665,000 in fiscal
year 2013).

The Associate Director will supervise the Assistant Director, Annual
Fund who is responsible for managing the student phonathon program. The
phonathon program is responsible for raising more than $500,000 from
alumni, parents and friends. The Associate Director will understand
phonathon software and computing programs, work with the Assistant
Director to set solicitation schedules, and develop and execute an
effective fulfillment program.

The Associate Director will coordinate and maintain an integrated
solicitation calendar including project management timelines for all
aspects of annual giving solicitation. He or she will manage
interactions, timing and donor response rates for each solicitation
channel to maximize results.

The position will operate as a donor database super user, collaborating
with the College Relations Information System team to create best
practices in extraction, ask logic, standard reporting and in-depth
analysis.

The Associate Director will supervise the direct marketing budget to
stay within financial constraints.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
and five years fundraising experience; or any combination of experience
and education that provides the applicant with the desired skills,
knowledge and ability required to perform the job. Applicants should
have a background in direct marketing or direct fundraising with a
specific focus on integrated marketing programs. Candidates with
advanced computer skills; project management certification or experience
and supervisory experience are strongly desired. Review of candidates
