Message-ID: Historians! We have included the most updated version of our list of classes for Autumn 2026. Since the incoming first year students have started registering, now is the time to grab Autumn quarter classes. One class we particularly want to point out is one that was just added to the schedule yesterday. HSTCMP 290 B will be offered with the topic of: "The Messy History of the British Empire, from the American Revolution to Brexit." This class explores the history of the British Empire from the American Revolution to the Brexit referendum, examining the British Empire as a precarious institution whose pretensions of global domination were constantly challenged by British citizens and subjects around the world. Through the lives of riotous sailors, escaped slaves, abolitionists, explorers, rebels, refugees, cross-dressers, bandits, soldiers, con-artists, white supremacists, anticolonial theorists, Boy Scouts, and more, we will examine how definitions of Britishness shifted over time and why the British Empire still casts such a long shadow over our world today.
