The U.S. Foreign Service: Behind the Scenes of American Diplomacy

Please join us as we welcome Nicholas Kralev to the UW campus on Monday,
September 24, 2012, for a public lecture in Kane Hall 225 (Walker Ames Room)
at 7:00 PM!
Kralev is one of the few journalists ever to be given access to the inner
sanctum of American diplomacy in Washington and around the world. He will
talk about his new book, "America's Other Army,"
(http://americasotherarmy.com <http://americasotherarmy.com/> ) which is
based on his visits to more than 50 U.S. embassies and interviews with 600
career diplomats, as well as Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell
and Madeleine Albright. For a decade, Kralev traveled with these U.S.
secretaries of state to over 80 countries as a newspaper correspondent.
He will share behind-the-scenes secrets about high-level foreign policy
decision-making. He will discuss how the work of American diplomats affects
our daily lives, and how it contributes directly to U.S. security and
prosperity. But he will also show a Foreign Service not fully equipped to
address the complex challenges of the 21st century.
Kralev is an author, journalist and speaker on international affairs,
diplomacy and global travel. A former Financial Times and Washington Times
correspondent, he holds a master's degree in public policy from Harvard
University¹s John F. Kennedy School of Government and speaks five languages.
This talk is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit
