Position: Student System Administrator - Part Time:

Location: Roosevelt Commons Building, 4311 - 11th Ave NE, and Mary Gates

The Information School is looking for a UW student to be responsible for
system administration of machines that support research projects that
utilize the Linux operating system. Candidates must be able to setup,
install, configure, and maintain the operating system and applications
to support user needs following best practices to insure a high level of
system reliability and security. Must be able to work well with
end-users and respond to their requests in a timely fashion. Will
install security updates and patches, add and delete users, perform
system backup, and regularly monitor system performance. Must work
closely with the Information School IT Team to insure that systems
integrate well with other iSchool and UW systems. Will document
processes and procedures. Will work with iSchool faculty and associated
researchers as well as the iSchool IT Team to assist with specifying new
hardware and software configurations to support a variety of research
projects. Will evaluate and test new technologies or processes as

Requirements: 1 year of Linux system administration, strong
communication and writing skills, ability to work well in an independent
fashion to meet project deadlines, highly reliable and responsible.

Pay $14-$17 per hour depending on experience. This is expected to be a
15 hour per week position starting immediately.
