rpm should copy it from the current default entry. If you're paranoid about a
kernel update not working, you can set DEFAULTKERNEL in /etc/sysconfig/kernel
and rpm will never change the default in grub.conf (you'd have to do it by
hand or select at boot to run a different kernel).
