We'd like to include ArcGIS in our comparison, but our use-case will require us to be able to: 1. Deploy the tool in a Docker container (The documentation says you can interact with ArcGIS via ArcPy in Docker, but I'm not clear if all of the necessary software lives in that container or what the limitations are) 2. License and host the underlying address data locally, as our contract with NIH won't allow external API calls in order to protect participant data. We've previously used the Business Analyst extension to ArcGIS Desktop for this purpose. Has anyone had experience with or talked to ESRI about deploying ArcGIS services in a container? If so, I'd love to pick your brain. We spoke with a sales rep at ESRI today, but he didn't have the technical background to answer our questions. My understanding is that the server side is a bit different (https://enterprise-k8s.arcgis.com/en/latest/deploy/system-requirements.htm) but would allow you to license Business Analyst Enterprise and then publish a geocoding service (https://doc.arcgis.com/en/business-analyst/enterprise/latest/windows/publishing-a-geocode-utility-service.htm ) that could be consumed from the Docker solution you reference to do geocoding. I have never done any of this. Just tangentially aware that it could be done. -Luke From: Uw-gis-l On Behalf Of Logan Piepmeier via Uw-gis-l Sent: Friday, April 12, 2024 11:29 AM To: Uw-gis-l@u.washington.edu Subject: [UW-GIS-L] Local Geocoding in Docker Container with ArcGIS I'm working on a project comparing geocoding services. Planet provides daily satellite imagery of Earth's land surfaces and coastal areas, and captures over 300 million square kilometers of imagery each day. To learn more about our license and request your account, please visit our UW Planet page here. Thank you to those in the UW GIS community who provided feedback on Planet.com as we were considering this license. We also invite you to join us for the 2024 UW Libraries GIS Symposium on Thursday, May 30th, to learn more about the new campus license to Planet.com and hear about other GIS research happening on campus. Don't hesitate to reach out to myself or Matt Parsons, Geospatial Data & Maps Librarian, if you have any questions.
