Dear Historians,
Please see below for two career prep and AI related courses from the College of Arts and Sciences shared by one of our colleagues there.
I wanted to share two Winter courses that I think could be great fits for History students who want practical, reflective ways to build AI fluency, strengthen their learning habits, and tell a sharper story about their skills. We’ve run ARTSCI 150 a few times (both during College Edge and this Autumn) and it’s something I wish I would have had as an A&S student. ARTSCI 250 is a very cool new in-person course, taught by Professor Anis Bawarshi from English on Ai and Metacognition. It’s going to be a super unique class and we’d love to have more A&S students.
ARTSCI 150: Foundations in AI-Powered Learning & Career Readiness
Credits/Format: 1 credit, asynchronous (fully online)
Instructor: Kevin Mihata
Who it’s for: True beginners welcome—skeptics too.
Why History students might care: This short, accessible course helps students use AI safely and effectively for brainstorming, research planning, outlining, and reflection. It’s ideal for anyone looking to connect their academic skills to internships, research, or early career steps—no technical background required.
ARTSCI 250 A: Learning with AI / How to Know, Learn, and Think Differently in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Credits/Format: 5 credits, in person & collaborative
Schedule: MW 2:30–4:20pm (SLN 22071)
Instructor: Anis Bawarshi
Why History students might care: Students pursue a self-chosen project and build a “learning story” that showcases critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical AI use—skills that translate directly to research, writing, and communication beyond the classroom.
